Very good opportunities for graphic designers are expected. Continuing growth of the Internet should provide many job opportunities, largely due to the demand for graphic designers to design and develop Web page layout. Businesses will continue to emphasize visually appealing concepts for use in communications, package design, publications, advertising, marketing, and television and video production, all of which require the skills of graphic designers. Despite strong demand for both freelance and salaried graphic designers, competition will be stiff for the best jobs because employers are willing to make attractive offers to the most talented and creative candidates.
 

The Internet is a whole new way of communication which is changing all aspects of the way we live. While closing the chapter on many jobs, we see an opening up of new avenues, for experienced people and first time aspirants.The future will see direct commercial transactions becoming common. There will therefore, be a lot of opportunities and jobs available in the web field.A web programmer needs a good practical knowledge of HTML, .NET/PHP, Perl nd Javascript. C/C++ are the standard programming languages and they too can be used along with CGI. Some packages like Frontpage offer interactive scripting functionality but add their own problems. Javascript allows flexibility in the user interface.

Ideally, the candidate for web programming should be proficient in Unix Operating Systems, on which most of the Internet runs, or Linux. Slowly, Windows NT- based web technology is growing. Knowledge of at least one RDBMS (Oracle, Sybase, Ingres, Postgres, MSQL) and using Perl/C/C++ and CGI to serve pages as requested, is much sought after. In recent times, some powerful commercial packages have been introduced, which take care of the simpler housekeeping details and initial coding. Despite this, a knowledge of RDBMS is desirable.
